| The Object of Rotary is to “encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise.” Rotary is a service organization. Since 1910, the Rotary Motto has been “Service Above Self.” Rotary strives to achieve its objective of “Service Above Self” through activities in four primary areas. These are often referred to as the Four Avenues of Service. The Dunellen-Green Brook Rotary Club endeavours to fulfill "The Object of Rotary" by member planning and participation in community and international projects as exemplified by the Four Avenues of Service. Club Service This “Avenue” promotes the development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service. It involves the activities necessary to make the Club function successfully and achieve its goals. Art on the Green -- Now in its 37th year, Art on the Green is a premier arts and crafts festival held in Washington Park, Dunellen, on the first Saturday after Labor Day. This year it will be held Saturday, September 12, 2009. Hundreds of crafters and artisans showcase their own creations in a lovely, shaded park setting. It is a bargain for the entire family. Our next Pasta Festival will held on April 6, 13, 20 and 27, 2009, at the Dunellen Hotel, 120 North Washington Avenue, Dunellen, 5 -- 8 p.m. Classic Car Show -- Come to Skinner Plaza, Dunellen, on the first Sunday in June for our Classic Car Show featuring 100's of classic, vintage, and unique automobiles. Walk the aisles of history and dance to the music you grew up on. Our next Car Show will be in June, 2009. Vocational Service This "Avenue" represents the opportunity that each Rotarian has to represent the dignity and utility of one’s vocation as an opportunity to serve society. Rotarians promote and foster high ethical standards in business and professions and promote the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations. Our Club is pleased to support the Scholarship and Career Corner of the Dunellen Public Library. All books and materials in the section are available to students, parents and Guidance Counselors at all local area schools and colleges. Community Service This “Avenue” relates to the activities that Rotarians undertake to improve the quality of life in their community. Particular emphasis is given to helping children, needy families, the aged, the handicapped, and those most in need of assistance. Rotarians strive to promote the ideal of service in their personal, business, and community lives.
