DUNELLEN-GREEN BROOK ROTARY CLUB
CLUB PROJECTS
The Object of Rotary is to “encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise.”
Rotary is a service organization.  Since 1910, the Rotary Motto has been “Service Above Self.”

Rotary strives to achieve its objective of “Service Above Self” through activities in four primary areas.
These are often referred to as the Four Avenues of Service.

The Dunellen-Green Brook Rotary Club endeavours to fulfill "The Object of Rotary" by member planning
and participation in community and international projects as exemplified by the Four Avenues of Service.

Club Service

This “Avenue” promotes the development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service.  It involves the
activities necessary to make the Club function successfully and achieve its goals.

Art on the Green -- Now in its 35th year, Art on the Green is a premier arts and crafts festival held in
Washington Park, Dunellen, on the first Saturday after Labor Day.  This year it will be held Saturday,
September 8, 2007.  Hundreds of crafters and artisans showcase their own creations in a lovely, shaded
park setting.  For more information or to obtain a vendor application, contact Leonard Siskin, 326 US
Highway 22, #6B, Green Brook, NJ 08812, 732-752-6606,

Dunellen Street Fair -- Our club, as a major community partner with the Dunellen Merchants and
Professionals Association, helps organize the annual Dunellen Street Fair.  We will share in coordinating
the day's events and we run a food concession stand.  This year it will be held Sunday, September 23,
2007.  For more information or to obtain a vendor application for the Street Fair, click here:
www.
dunellenmerchants.org, or call Bill at 732-713-6068.

Pasta Festival -- Over five Monday nights in April and early May, our club runs Pasta Festival where
people come for all you can eat of three kinds of pasta and four kinds of sauce.  It is a bargain for the
entire family.  This year, Pasta Festival will be held April 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, 2007.

Classic Car Show -- Come to Skinner Plaza, Dunellen, on the first Sunday in June for our Classic Car
Show featuring 100's of classic, vintage, and unique automobiles.  Walk the aisles of history and dance
to the music you grew up on.  This year, the Car Show will be held June 3, 2007.

Super 50/50 Raffle -- We are holding a Super 50/50 Raffle with $10,000 in prizes, drawing on the
afternoon of the Car Show, June 3, 2007.  Proceeds go toward our annual scholarships.

Vocational Service

This "Avenue" represents the opportunity that each Rotarian has to represent the dignity and utility of
one’s vocation as an opportunity to serve society.  Rotarians promote and foster high ethical standards
in business and professions and promote the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations.

Our Club is pleased to support the Scholarship and Career Corner of the Dunellen Public Library.  All
books and materials in the section are available to students, parents and Guidance Counselors at all local
area schools and colleges.

Community Service

This “Avenue” relates to the activities that Rotarians undertake to improve the quality of life in their
community.  Particular emphasis is given to helping children, needy families, the aged, the handicapped,
and those most in need of assistance.  Rotarians strive to promote the ideal of service in their personal,
business, and community lives.

Dictionary Program -- All third-grade students in Dunellen and Green Brook receive a free dictionary.  It
is our way of putting a good word in for them.  To learn more about The Dictionary Project, click here:

Holiday Lighting Ceremony in Washington Park -- As the December holidays approach, our club invites
all the borough's residents to join us in Washington Memorial Park for a tree lighting ceremony, hot
chocolate, and song.

We proudly sponsor the Dunellen Little League.  Our banner hangs on Center Field, Clem Santy Little
League Field, McCoy Park, Dunellen.

Two other projects involved the construction and furnishing of public monuments and buildings in
Dunellen.  Below, on the left, is the Announcement Sign in Washington Memorial Park, Dunellen, and on
the right is the Concession Stand, located in Columbia Park, Dunellen, furnished as part of the 100th
Rotary Year Project.  Past President Tom Schleppenbach oversaw this cooperative effort between our
club and the Borough of Dunellen.

Other Community Projects include:

   Girl Scouts
   Dunellen High School Project Graduation
   Watchung Reg. H.S. Project Graduation

Dunellen Education Foundation
   Green Brook Education Foundation
   Dunellen Rescue Squad
   Green Brook Rescue Squad
Cerebral Palsy Association of Middlesex County

Our proudest achievement is our commitment to the education of our youth.  Over the past 40 years,
our club has raised and donated over $100,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors from Dunellen
High School and Watchung Regional High School so that they may pursue varied careers in the arts,
sciences, and vocational studies.

International Service

In this area, Rotarians strive for the advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace
through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
International Service Projects are designed to meet the humanitarian needs of people in many lands,
with particular emphasis on the most underprivileged children and families in developing countries.
